BLOG-PROJ

BLOG-PROJ

This is a semester-long project designed to get you some exposure to college newspapers and publications around the country.

Your work with be ongoing in the form of a single blog post each week and will culminate in a brief report to the class at the end of the term about some of the things you’ve been observing and thinking about.

 How to begin:

Step 1:

Start looking around for some college newspapers and publications.  A quick search online revealed a list of 50 college papers:

https://www.collegechoice.net/top-50-college-newspapers/

However, there are many more to choose from.

Step 2:

After you have spent some time considering which papers you might like to follow, email me your top 3 choices.  I’ll do my best to honor your top choice, but it may not always be possible.

Step 3:

Once you have your paper locked in, start following it.  What does that mean?  For our purposes, it will mean visiting the site 2 x over the week and reading a different article each visit.  Post the story link and summarize each article in 150-200 words; post both summaries for credit by Sunday 11:59 pm of each week.  I’ll include a BLOG-PROG link in our scheduling starting in week 3.

I would STRONGLY recommend that you create a page on your ePortfolio as well to keep track of all of your summaries.  You could call it BLOG-PROJ.

Step 4:

During the last few weeks of class you’ll revisit your summaries and gather your thoughts about the kinds of stories you’ve read noting quality, timeliness, interest, and your overall impressions of the paper itself.  You’ll give a brief report to the class at the end of the term.
