What I did in class today was working on my profile piece and rounding out my first completed draft. I would like to be able to make the proper revisions necessary to complete the profile. I am really trying to take myself out of the piece more and make it more of reporting then anecdotal like my feature creature. I also plan on running this through grammar.ly to make the necessary spell checks and grammatical mistakes. I would also like to use some of the techniques emulated by actual reporters. Looking back I feel my feature creature was more story, with a good substance( interviews and inside knowledge) which could have been used in a better light.
Today in class, my group sat down and created an outline for our podcast. We had to push a few things back because of the snow, so having this time in class was super helpful. We planned each of our talking points out over the 4 C’s, and I think it will give us some direction when we start recording. We created charts for each of the 4 c’s to direct our conversation, and having it up in front of us, as well as having this time to work collaboratively, was super helpful.
I spent this class working with my podcast group on formulating our thoughts for the podcast, as well as organizing our plan of action for filming and editing. We discussed what would be the best way to structure our podcast, both on paper and when we film, and we reached an agreement that we would all speak on our strengths and weaknesses within the 4 C’s of Reporting. I also worked a little bit on my profile, and I’ll continue to do this after class. My group is meeting over the weekend to film, so I think we have a good plan of action for the project.
Today’s class allowed our podcast group to form an outline before our recording session this weekend. The outline provides us with points we do not want to miss, and helps us work out our thoughts as a guide. I also moved a few things around in my profile, since I was working on it late last night and wanted to reorganize a few thoughts and add additional notes.
For today’s class in lieu of having a presenter we ended up having a work day to really find an area of our recent works that need some attending to. For me I took today’s class period to speak to Professor Miller to make some corrections and clarifications to my e-portfolio. In addition I took some time to make up a part of my feature piece that was not to completion. As well as some drafting and planning for our current profile project. A final organizational task I completed during our class period today was to go through and compile all of my blog projects and journals into one document for each.
Today in class my podcasting group was able to get together and record our podcast! It was actually a great time to do it, because this weekend I’m going to be slightly busy (because it’s my birthday), and Kayleigh was going to have a super busy week, so we were thinking about having to zoom everyone together. Thankfully we were able to do it all today, and finish the outro and the intro. Nick is going to edit it due to his background in the podcasting class, so the current plan is to have him edit it and then send it to me and Kayleigh to review.
Today in class, myself and my podcast partner worked on editing our podcast raw recording. Mostly it consisted of splitting the raw audio file up into sections for each topic we discussed, then trying to figure out which parts were most important and deserved to be in the final version. We also found some intro and outro music, but I still need to continue editing and record voiceovers for the podcast. I also worked on my profile piece, primarily in picking out where the most impactful points of my profile are located to try and find relevant quotations besides the ones I already have.
Today in class I spent time working on the podcast project. My group first set up the room making sure we get the bets sound and made sure we knew we what we wanted to say. We then recored the audio for the podcast as well as the intro or outro. We finished off brainstorming what to remove to make the podcast sound better.
Journal #18: What did your group do during the hour of class time?
During the hour of class time on 4/5 me and Nick and Cole went to an empty classroom and discussed what direction we wanted to take the podcast. We made a shared google doc and shared our ideas and created an outline for where we wanted to go and what exactly we wanted to say. We then discussed further meeting times to edit and discuss more about the piece after the class time. Once we were confident of the key ideas that we wanted to discuss in the podcast we started recording. Luckily our first take went well. We listened back to the recording and we only had to record once because we were all happy with the product. The recording ended up being 11 minutes so just a little bit over the 5-10 minute requirement.
Today’s class workday was very helpful for me in organizing the group for the final portion of the podcast project. We all looked over the final edit and posted it to my YouTube channel since I already have my UNE account with videos for various courses. After making sure everyone had the link, I posted it to my eportfolio page for the project and made that visible. As for the profile, I spent some time over the week going through the notes from my interview with Ahmida and the audio recording I have. So, during class, I tried to pull those together and make sure I felt I had the full context of the interview and some major themes to help find my focus for the profile. I have worked through my quotes from a fellow student and poli sci mentee of Ahmida, and now that I have a working full draft of the interview additions, I spent my time in class working on making this a cohesive story. I also had some time to look into another story from Boston College’s The Heights for blog project #9, which is due this weekend.
Progress Report: Journal 18
I first started out with the time given in Friday’s class. I decided I worked on my profile, with some editing, on grammar and collecting the quotes that I used. I spend a bit of the time trying to find the punctuation in the interviewed quotes. Also I decided to read through all the way on the profile so I could connect the quotes and find the angle and then merge them together. I didn’t work on my Blog Proj week 9 because I have already finished it earlier in the week to get more time on working on my profile draft of 400 plus words. I am up to 800 give or take on my Profiles draft, and I think it’s ready to be peer reviewed because I am not sure what else to do with it along with it needs another set of eyes on it. This is the one class that I have kept up in and worked to get ahead earlier on in the week. So to be productive, I reorganized my eportfolio page so all of my assignments for this class are in one heading as sub items. As well as posting my 400 plus word rough draft to my eportfolio, and the Podcast my group made in its own page on my eportfolio, making it easier to follow and access. This class time was productive for me in doing little smaller projects that are needed to help move larger ones along and being more organized.
On Friday 04/5, I used class time to catch up on my Profile Feature, work on Blog Project Week 9, and the podcasting assignment. For the Blog, I went to Union College’s newspaper and covered two articles: Challenging the New Ice Rink Plan at Mohawk and The 411 on Meal Plans, Declining Balance. I also worked with my Podcast partner, Finn, as we worked out some of the challenges in our recording. We discussed transitions between our topics while connecting the 4 C’s and went over any extra information we thought might be missing. For my profile feature, I continued to develop my draft, adding quotes and restructuring the format of my information. Going forward with this project, I want to make this article more attractive to readers and add ‘spice’ to it.
In class on Friday I was able to complete more of my profile as well as set up an interview with a student who has taken a class with professor Cripps. This interview will be conducted this week and will be included into the draft for peer review. I also have been planning a time to meet with Professor Cripps to be able to get an interview with him. What was added was a baseline but will be made better once interviews are completed and added into the story. I was also able to talk with my podcast group about when we would meet up and complete the podcast for Tuesday’s class.
Over the last class period on 4/5/24 I made some dividends on my profile. I was able to schedule my interviews with my subject and then some other interviews with people you know my subject and can provide more insight on him for me to add to the article. I also spent time re-working some of the writing that I had already had and just figuring out ways to manipulate the story to make it flow better than it already does. I realized that there were some parts that fit better in certain places than where I had them originally. I also spent time asking Will some questions over the phone just basic information he could provide me without me having to interview him completely. Overall, I’d say the class period the other day helped make some strides in the right direction when it comes to getting the profile where I want it.
During the class session on April 5th, 2024, I dedicated my efforts to advancing my profile project. Specifically, I focused on crafting new questions to pose during interviews and identifying additional individuals to interview. This process involved careful consideration of the information needed to enrich my profile and ensure its depth and accuracy. By diligently refining my interview strategy, I aimed to gather comprehensive insights that would contribute to the overall quality of my project.
during the unexpected free work time during class time on April 5th 2024 I took to working on the blog project in class, and compiling what I had done up until that point to help better prepare me for the presentation that I will have to do later this month near the end of the semester. I also used a portion of this time to work on my profile piece.
