    Breakout questions:

    What is the story about?
The story is about Louis Silverstein introducing graphic design elements to the New York Times. Making it easier to read and better for the viewer.

    Hard or soft news?
Soft news is a type of news that gives information but in an entertaining way. This is soft news because it is meant as an entertainment for the reader, more than hard news which is focused more around conflict or emergency based information I feel like.

    Who is the author?
The author of the article is Will Dudding.

Who is involved in the story?
In the story it is Louis Silverstein and Steven Heller is the main source; he is a former art director of the Times.

    What authority do they have?
They made up and controlled the layout and pictures and the font.format of the Times.

    Anything curious about the subject?
I think it’s curious as to why the Times history is interesting to read and how things used to be and why they are the way they are currently.

    What is Times Insider?
The Times insider reports on the New York Times inner workings on “Explains who we are and what we do…” (How the Lady became Less Gray, Will Dudding). It basically talks about the history of the newspaper.

What is its relationship to news?
This is a major part of the news today and visual and text are big players in comprehension of the news as well as evidence of statistics

How does the headline hook you and connect to the story?
Yes it does and it makes sense. It is a good play on words.

What are some of the differences between the print and digital version?
The digital version is a singular article with nothing surrounding the sides of the singular column of text. Except the right photos for the article. While the print has a lot more busy words and multiple columns on the single page.

What about the shift in style for The New York Times print edition?
The cold style and hot type. The hot type did not allow them to add more or different fonts which can make it hard to read.

    Which version do you prefer?
I liked the cold style version better, it’s easier for my brian to take in and understand without getting distracted.

How do the quotes fit with the non-quote paras?
They help move the paragraphs on or change or complete the paragraphs as evidence of an eye witness, and give more of an “inside scoop” about what the people working in the department thought about the styles.

    Notice anything about the style?
They are easier to read and give the articles more legitimacy by helping present more evidence.

What is the function of the text beneath the photos or graphics?
It is to describe, and give context of the photos or graphics.
